Fashion Flashback: Grunge in Vogue 1992

It was this editorial that introduced the grunge trend into the mainstream fashion world.  At the time the trend confused many and in the words of James Truman (editor in chief back then) “Punk was anti-fashion – it made a statement but grunge is about not making a statement, which is why it’s crazy for it to become a fashion statement.” and designer Jean Paul Gaultier thought that Grunge was nothing more than the way we dress when we have no money

This was a brave and bold move from Vogue, but payed off because this changed fashion. Of course, I understand that and you might too but at the time it wasn’t understood, accepted and appreciated. And yes, that is Naomi Campbell!

What do you think of the grunge trend?
