On this day in fashion history

In 2007, it was announced that a street in Milan was to be named after Gianni Versace to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his death on July 15. “It is a tribute to Gianni Versace the man, the artist,” said Milan’s cultural advisor, Vittorio Sgarbi. The street, named Via Versace, is in northern Milan in an area known as Fashion City, and the Versace family were more than happy with the honour. “Gianni was a great man and a great artist; a genius who deserved all this,” said his sister Donatella.
