On this day in fashion history

In 2006 Anna Wintour shared the three golden rules she and her team followed when producing US Vogue:

1. “Aim high – very high,” wrote Wintour. “When we cover politics, no expense is spared. We know you come toVogueto find out that platforms and wide belts are back, but you expect a few surprises, too.”

2. “Have fun,” continued the editor. “This can mean sending the hip-hop star Pharrel Williams to Rio with Karolina Kurkova for a swimsuit story, or capturing a very pregnant Melania Trump stepping out of the Trump jet in a gold bikini.”

3. “Keep your influence by exercising it,” concluded Wintour. “We take very seriously the needs of young designers: for money, advice, encouragement, and job placements. The CFDA/VogueFashion Fund, which awards mentoring and money to emerging talents, is helping to focus international attention on New York’s new generation.”
