On this day in fashion history

2009, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) urged Hollywood’s A-list to boycott Armani for the Oscars. The group claimed that the designer had gone back on a pledge he had previously signed promising to ban the use of fur in all future collections. The organisation produced a poster depicting Giorgio Armani as the long-nosed Pinocchio, and, additionally, wrote to all Oscar nominees asking them to instead wear fur-free labels such as Stella McCartney or Vivienne Westwood.
