On this day in fashion history

In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent spoke up about his decision to retire from fashion. The reason behind it being that he was disgusted by the industry, which was more ruled by commercial gain than art. “I have nothing in common with this new world of fashion, which has been reduced to mere window-dressing.” he said. The 65-year old designer told a french magazine that “Elegance and beauty have been banished”. He added that he was worn out after nearly half a century at the height of fashion, during which time he suffered from both drug addiction and depression.

Yves Saint Laurent died in June 2008 – a big loss to the fashion and creativity industry, but he left his mark!
