In 2010, mini skirts were banned from the Italian town of Castellammare di Stabilia, after its Mayor, Luigi Bobbio, complained of falling levels of decency. Bobbio won a vote preventing women from wearing “very short” items of clothing. Women who refused to adhere to the new rule were set to face a fine of £265.
