Happiness Handbook

We all wish we could live in a world where money grows on trees, where all men are like Edward Cullen and where chocolate makes you thin. Unfortunately this place that we fantasize about does not exist, that’s why we have to grab the chocolate by its wrapper and just eat it.

You’ll find that the quicker you adopt an optimistic view of life, you will find coping with day to day challenges of life a lot easier to handle. Here’s a few tricks that I’d like to share cos sometimes it’s a lot easier said than done.

Find the silver lining

Life has so many ups and downs and it’s hard to keep up. One minute you feel your life is fulfilled and nothing can change that, the next minute we asking ourselves why does this happen to me? One motto to always keep in mind is ‘Everything happens for a reason’ – it might sound like a cliche but it always helps you to see the positive side of things when they are looking very doom and gloom. Say you really want a job, you go for the interview only to find out a few days later you were unsuccessful. Don’t give up, you have to keep going. Maybe the reason you didn’t get that job is because there is a much better one with your name written all over it.

Good Vibes

The second secret is to surround yourself with peeps that have a positive affect on you. Whether it is family, friends, church or the girl you sit next to in class. The saying goes that you should be able to count your true friends on one hand only. Find yours and keep them close to you. Get rid of bad influence, people or family that bring you down, those who turn positivity into negativity and complain… constantly. Wave them ta-ta and learn ignore their moaning. Hang onto those that will share your excitement and will keep pushing you to excel even more. The ones who have no doubts about whether or not you can do it.

Dream Big

Not everyone realises how important it is to have dreams and goals.  Without those two vital elements, you have nothing to strive for. A life without getting up in the morning and being able to say I am one step closer to my dream is an empty life. Nothing can top that feeling of actually achieving one of your goals, it boosts your morale and makes you hungry for more. Make a list of things you would like to achieve. It can be little things like to smile more or plant a veggie patch. Tick off every time you achieve something and it will definitely motivate you to keep going. Patience is key for this trick. You also have to find the balance between realistic and unrealistic.

Learn to love/get ready

You have to teach yourself to be happy, this of course is probably one of the hardest things to achieve, it can be done though. The way you start your morning will determine how your day goes. Make sure you feel happy every morning.  There are many ways to do this such as, just think of everything you have and everything you have achieved.  Count your blessings and don’t dwell on the obstacles, they are what keep life interesting and they mould you into the person you are meant to be.

Laugh it off

Humour and laughter will allow you to see the brighter side of every situation. When a situation gets you frustrated or depressed, take a minute to just think about the funny side. There is always at least one!  Often things will seem worse if you get yourself so worked up that you have steam coming out your ears. Sometimes they are worse but most of the time they really aren’t, you are just looking at the wrong side of the it. Don’t let circumstances or people get in the way of your happiness, dreams or your positivity. When a hurdle jumps in front of you on that 100m sprint, you can either try jump over it and still finish the race or you can stand in front of it and give up. The trick to this is to know once you’ve finished that race you have indeed gotten through another one of life’s curve balls, which is something you should can be proud of.

I am Me

Last but not least, be yourself – everyone else is taken. Don’t ever try and be like somebody else or live to impress others. You are who you are and those who stick with you will be very fortunate. Those who don’t, who really cares about them? The sooner you accept and appreciate yourself the easier it will be to achieve all of the above mentioned in your life. Embrace who you are, that includes your awkward bits, your achievements and your personality. You will never enjoy life if you are so busy trying to be someone else or even like someone else.

Live…Laugh…Love…All else will fall into place*

Imagine the limits that you can reach if you give yourself permission to live now instead of waiting for some mythical future day.

That’s right! Great things can happen if you stop thinking that for now its ok to bitch and moan that nothing is happening in life and just lay back and think you were dealt a crap deal. If you get out of your pity boat you will see that life is interesting – and who doesn’t like interesting? Not everyone can fall with their ass in the gold – some of us have to make it happen! Trust me, the latter is way more fun.

Its too easy to get wrapped up in the hardships that we miss out on the fun, the experimenting, and life!

Get out there and LIVE! Don’t be a waste of a beautiful specimen.

There is NO excuse or reason for you to be surrounded by four boring walls (unless in a room anywhere but at home) in your pjs eating fat food. There are plenty reasons to make pretty, get out and make memories!

Laugh till your tummy hurts!
Learn from your mistakes!
Party till morning!
Fill your heart with friends!
Search till you find yourself…then love yourself!
S.M.I.L.E at everyone – you look pretty and you could meet prince everything-you’ve-been-wanting like that!
Love the special ones in your life!

Stop waiting for stuff and life to happen…Make it happen! The world is yours, make it your bitch!
