GIRLS to be made into a reality show?

If you don’t know my obsession with HBO’s Girls and Lena Dunham by now then you obviously don’t follow me on Twitter!

Apparently the show has had such major success, it has now been decided to make a reality spin off of it.

Hailey Glassman is said to be the main character (the Lena Dunham) in this new realtiy show.

“They’ve already cast Hailey because she sort of epitomises the mid-to-upper class 20-something trying to make it in New York City,”

“ABC has really high goals for the show and each character will be loosely based off one of the characters in the scripted show.

“The premise of the series is to show the hardships of living in New York City and the hustle and creativity it takes to survive in the concrete jungle.

“This is going to be a group of extroverted girls who are well-educated, go to brunch on Sundays bust their asses during the week to make ends meet”

What are your thoughts on this? I love Girls so I really don’t think anything can do it justice, and also, it’s very unoriginal.

Weekly Wrap Up

Yay it’s Friday and for many of us, the first weekend after being back at work! If you’re like me, you’ve been in your own world of day dreams about the New Year has to offer and have also been pretty tired and lethargic throughout the week, so in case you missed any of this due to lack of interest to anything other than your bed, here is the weekly wrap up of fashion, celebs and anything worth mentioning…

- The awards season kicked off with the People’s Choice Awards and the general consensus was that Taylor Swift was once again, the best dressed. You can view my favorites here

The most successful winner on the night was The Hunger Games franchise

- Justin Bieber was allegedly snapped smoking pot which caused a Twitter frenzy. Fans created a hashtag #cutforbieber and were cutting themselves in protest of him “smoking” the pot (I searched the hashtag, it wasn’t pretty)

- Chanel’s Spring ad campaign was released and caused controversy because of two young models used in the campaign. The campaign has a Japenese feel, you can view the campaign here

- Mila Kunis (who was voted sexiest woman alive by GQ magazine just a few months ago) was dubbed by New York News Daily as the “frumpiest” celeb

- Kate Middleton (who the world seems to be obsessed with) turned 31 on Monday 09 January

- Britney Spears quit X Factor, since I watched the season she was on, I must say it is the best thing for the viewers as well as her career.

- Apparently Taylor Swift is back in the recording studio, which of course is probably inspired by the Harry Styles breakup (I don’t mind though, as long as she keeps making music as good as the stuff on her album RED)

- The Oscar nominations were announced, you can view the list here

- Emma Stone stunned once again in a ravishing red Lanvin dress

Yay or Nay: Jennifer Lawrence for Dior

Raf Simons has announced that Jennifer Lawrence (Catniss from The Hunger Games) as the new face of the Dior 2013 ad campaign.

Why was Jennifer first choice?

“Like the whole world I first discovered Jennifer Lawrence as a young action hero. I was of course struck by her unbelievable on screen presence in these ‘larger than life’ movies, but I was equally impressed by her powerful portrayal of more emotional and complex characters. Her youth and her classic beauty but also the feminine strength and complexity that she can portray at such a young age are for me very unique and very appealing.”

This, of course, means we say bye to current face, Mila Kunis, who has done a splendid job.

ELLE Magazine making it happen

Today ELLE SA shared news with all its fans and followers that will go down in history – as Jackie Burger, editor of ELLE described it “This is history in the making”

What exactly is all the buzz about and why was ELLE Magazine trending on Twitter?

For many reasons, I mean it’s ELLE Magazine – One of South Africa’s leading fashion magazines, but mainly because they took a step that hasn’t been taken before, they invited international style icon, Solange Knowles to our shores, to meet our editors and to feature in our magazine. Not only did they take the step, but they are now going on a journey that many of us only dream of, they are treading on international waters. It’s not everyday that a star such as Solange agrees to shack up in South Africa with the Elle belle’s

What this means?

The wonderful ELLE team, who keeps on giving us the latest and greatest will be putting together an upcoming issue that will tickle every fashionista’s fancy, that will have all the readers rushing to the stores to get the issue and that will have the world talking about SA. The magazine will not feature pictures of Solange Knowles taken in a studio overseas, it will not feature a copy and paste interview with Solange – it will feature pictures of the style icon, taken in South Africa, by hopefully a local photographer, and will be directed by our very own ELLE team. I am not a hundred perecent sure about what the exact plans for Solange are, but either way, said issue is going to be the issue of the year

What this means to me?

Well if you think back to when it was announced that South Africa was going to be hosting the soccer world cup, it was a moment for South Africa and soccer fans united, it was a time of excitment and intrigue. The excitement that soccer fans felt on that day can’t even be compared to how I felt today. I have always been a proud South African because I know what we have to offer, it’s just a case of showing the rest of the world what we can do. By ELLE making this happen, they have shown that we have guts and determination and that we can take on anything, and by Solange agreeing to come to SA, we may see more big celebs coming our way.

My chosen career path is one in which I hope to follow in the footsteps of Jackie Burger and Poppy Evans so to see such big things happening in the industry have me giddy with excitment.

The ELLE team deserve all the praise they are getting simply because they took the step.

- Despite the Yves Saint Laurent name change, the logo will remain the same (I’m still not happy about this decision, and don’t care who you are, you don’t walk into an empire and change the name)

- Aggyness Deyn got married, to Giovanni Ribisi. Congrats to them

- Apparently today is no panties day?

- Lady Gaga is touring SA later in the year.

- Jane Raphaelys book, Jane Rapaely Unedited has now launched. She is the queen of media and magazines so this book is a must read.

- Sass Diva is having a major sale 3 for R100 while stocks last, you have no excuse – its the weekend now.

- Lastly I have learnt a major lesson this week due to a very unfortunate passing of someone I followed on Twitter. Life is so short so just live!

As if their 15 year faud wasn’t enough, Naomi Campbell has now jumped on the reality show bandwagon and is set to be one of three judges and the host of a new show called The Face.

The show is said to be a fresh new series that delivers fashion, beauty and drama by the president of NBC. It’s so fresh that its going to feature photo shoots, catwalk shows and advertisements for well known brands.

So fresh that the winner will become a brand ambassador and the face of huge brand (not yet disclosed)

Vera Wang has joined the cosmetics world by putting her name on a new makeup line for Kohl’s called Simply Vera

Royal face for Gucci

The fashion house has released the images of Charlotte Casiraghi, the 25-year-old daughter of Princess Caroline and granddaughter of Grace Kelly, posing for its “Forever Now” campaign.

She was shot in a stable and the outcome is gorgeous and fresh!

Marilyn Monroe inspired MAC

Marilyn Monroe is an all round inspiration in most aspects, including style, hair, makeup and most recently a movie about her life. Now MAC Cosmetics is joining the Marilyn party by launching a limited Marilyn Monroe inspired range. It is said to be made up of about 30 beauty goodies including lipsticks, eyeshadows, eyeliners and nail polish.

I’m sure we’ll be seeing some deep reds and extra dark black eyeliners. I’m excited to see the range which is set to hit the shelves around October.

Currently in store is the Nicki Minaj/ Ricky Martin Viva Glam range which is all about the lips and proceeds from sales go towards a special charity.
