My Inspiration

Inspiration is important for not only creatives such as writers, designers and photographers, but its an important part of life – being inspired is a feeling that can’t really be compared to much else.

I am inspired daily by beautiful things, successful people, TV shows and fashion, so I am going to share some of my biggest inspirations with you

STYLE

First up is Erin Silver from 90210 (Jessica Stroup) being the biggest fan of the show ever, I have been watching season four and once again, her style in the show knocked me for a six. As much as I love/admire super high heels and flowy dresses, they’re just not me. I don’t have a particular style but prefer cute over sexy, pumps over heels, quirky over prim. Silvers style in 90210 pretty much sums up how I would like to look on a daily basis.

I am dying for the white hat with black bow on it.

Which brings me onto my next inspiration, which is of course, Zooey Deschanel. She is the queen of quirky, not only in her show New Girl but also in real life.

IDEAS

My best ideas come to me when I am surrounded by amazing things or when I am in a room which is pleasing for the eye, I wish on a daily basis for a room which I can turn into my own little space, filled with all the things I love, magazines, posters, etc. For now looking at pictures sends me into daydreams which then lead to interesting thoughts and ideas.

I am no design fundi, but I appreciate good spaces.

Something like these will do

CAREER INSPIRATION/ INSPIRING WOMEN

My chosen industry – journalism/writing is a tough one and I have a few women who inspire me and who have shown me that anything is possible

Rebecca Dodd – Deputy Editor and Fashion Editor on All4Women

My current editor at All4Women who I have gotten to know and learnt to love. Rebecca is only 25 but knows how to wow anyone with words and has a damn good resume. I hope to do as well in my career as she has done in such a short space. After meeting her in person, I have even more respect for her.

Bryony McCormick – Editor of Saltwater Girl

Bryony is the girl I wanted to be when I was a teenager – uber cool surfer type chick with so much to offer the world. She has taken Saltwater Girl Magazine (a mag I read as a teen as well) to new levels and is definately an inspiration to me not only career wise but attitude wise. She is a happy lady with a passion for many things all while being easy to get along with!

Poppy Evans – Ms Elle Fashion

Elle is one of the worlds leading fashion magazines and Poppy is SA Elle’s very own fashion editor. She has visions that are beautiful, trendy, original and creative. Who wouldn’t want to be fashion editor of Elle Magazine?

Coco Chanel

She needs no introduction and even though she is no longer alive, her story is one that has inspired me and kept me positive when everything looked negative. She is a legend in her own right through hard work, dedication and passion

Nicole Warr – Editor Vintage Lifestyle Magazine

This lady is younger than me but took a step that others dream of but aren’t brave enough to take. She started South Africas first online vintage magazine, which has soared since it started and has built a loyal readership and has gotten her noticed. Her love for vintage has helped her reach her dream

These are a few of the things that inspire me, among many others, but these are the ones worth mentioning because they are a part of me.

Who/what inspires you? Do share :)

I just clicked Mr P

So after much excitement at the annoucement of a Mr Price online store I couldn’t wait to get online and see everything – I had a browse a few times yesterday and today, added a few things to my wishlist and finally took the plunge and ordered today.

Everything about the site is quick, easy and detailed. Price, colours, details etc. are included for each product, check out is easy and so is payment and delivery.

I am very impressed with my experience, now I wait for my order.

What did I order? Well I kept it small, a while ago I bought a pair of blue pointy pumps with heart detail on them because I had bought a blue blazer and they looked cute together… The shoes have since became one of my favorite pairs, they are comfy and have the cutest heart on them. While browsing I saw there was a black pair and had to have them..

I ordered a few minutes ago and am super excited to receive my parcel. I not only wanted the shoes but also wanted to be a part of the whole experience because everyone has been stoked with how quickly their deliveries came.

There are three delivery options

Door to door

Post Office

Nearest Store

There are also many payment options.

There really isn’t much more I could ask for – Mr Price is one of my favorite stores and now will probably be the leader of the pack due to convenience.

Props to Mr P for this initiative, I’ll be sure to let you know when I get my package.

Go visit Mr P Online and start shopping

Rebel Obsessed

I was lucky enough to receive a goodie bag from AFI SA and Mercedes Benz on my trip and of all the goodies in the bag, the one that stood out was MAC Rebel Lipglass – to say I am obsessed with this colour is an understatement. I wore it everyday in Cape Town and have it on today.

Being a light pink girl and wanting to move away from the light shades, this couldn’t have come at a better time. This is also the first time I am trying a MAC lipgloss because I’m quite a cheap gloss girl, my mentality has been all wrong thinking they’re all one in the same.

Now that I have tried MAC, I am dying to take a look instore at the other colours available – this gloss lasts and has such a beautiful colour to it no matter how much you apply. I apply two coats to get close to the bottle colour (its a stunning grape) and find that I reapply every three hours or so. It is quite thick in texture but not at all sticky.

According to my MAC friend and pro, this was a limited edition colour and also came in a lipstick and polish..

And just look how amazing it is – I want the polish and lipstick, and like a ton more of the gloss.

Tell me about your favorite MAC products and colours..

On this day in fashion history

In 2009, Oscar de la Renta was named as the recipient of the Superstar Award at The Fashion Group International’s 26th annual Night of Stars. He was awarded for his contribution to the industry over a lengthy period of time. The award honoured not only his lifetime achievements but his vitality and creativity.

My fashionable & fun adventure

After a very busy and fun-filled five days I have finally settled down long enough to think and write. After winning a dream trip from Grazia Magazine, I decided not to take my laptop with me as I figured I’d take a break from everything, but after a couple of hours in Cape Town and after day one of MBCTFW I wished I had brought it along – so much to say and share.

Now that I am back in Durban, safe and sounds full of excitement and memories I can share my experience with all of you :)

For those of you who don’t know – Grazia was running an all inclusive competition for MBCTFW which included frow tickets to ALL the shows, a four night stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel, flights and VIP access at the shows (among a few other goodies) so when they called me to say I had won, you can imagine my reaction – screaming, shaking, jumping and excitement at the thought of flying for the first to Cape Town where I have been absolutely dying to go, for fashion week.

We (the fiancee and I) flew on Wednesday and arrived at the Radisson Blu, which literally took my breath away. So lush, so luxurious and so beautiful, I decided there and then I want to live there.

Naturally, we headed straight to the V&A Waterfront, where I lost my mind once again at the sight of a real-life Burberry shop and once again at the beautiful sights of Cape Town.

Later in the day we took the Mercedes Benz fashion week shuttle to City Hall where the first shows were happening and yes Kluk was as amazing as everyone has been saying (more on that and the other shows in my next post)

We spent the rest of our days touring the city and sights, attending fashion shows, sipping champagne and meeting interesting and exciting people.

Of course I got to meet lovely ladies whose blogs I have been following since I became part of the blogosphere, Nicole Warr – Vintage Lifestyle Magazine, Sheri Lee – SA Fashion Girl, and Jasna – Fashionjazz

Then I got to meet Ms Elle Fashion herself, Poppy Evans and my truly amazing editor at All4Women, Rebecca as well as Marianna who also writes for All4Women.

I sat across the likes of Bryan Habana, Patricia de Lil, Liezel van der Westhuizen and Matthew Booth at the shows.

On Saturday (our last full day) we took the sightseeing bus with an open top around the city, Camps Bay and Kirstenbosch which had me oohing and aahing because firstly, Camps Bay is amazing and secondly the buildings in the city are so old and beautiful. I didn’t realise just how much I enjoy buildings and architecture..

All in all it was an experience I will never forget because while I could take a trip to Cape Town anytime, I wouldn’t be able to stay in a place like the Radisson, I wouldn’t be sitting in the frow for fashion week and I wouldn’t be able to see so many stylish people in one place at one time.

Cape Town – you are beautiful and your residents are friendly and welcoming. I loved every minute and hope I can come back soon.

I will be posting all about Fashion Week soon, so keep an eye out :)

What have you all been up to?

I’m back

So I’m back from my amazing little holiday and it was pretty much everything I could have wanted and more. I felt like a proper VIP and had the time of my life…

Due to me being back at work and having a ton of work to do, I have not posted any pictures as yet but they will be coming shortly.

This is just a short one to say HEY :)

Mid week breaking

So if you haven’t seen all my crazy tweets about going to Cape Town for Fashion week, then where have you been? It has been my only topic of discussion/tweeting since I found out last Friday that I won a huge competition Grazia Magazine was running.

Yes, its a huge deal and yes I am excited beyond words.

This is just my little note to say ciao, I will be back to normal blogging from Monday – and you can expect lotsa pics and news from my trip :)

Monday Motivation

Ok so I know you’re not all flying to Cape Town for fashion week so this is much needed on this dreary Monday morning!

Wishing you all a fun, happy, successful week ahead.
