Newest Obssession

WOWZA

I liked them from the time I heard their first song “dinosaur” on 5fm, and then sex me slowly and get up (if you’re hot).  But you cannot appreciate these guys until seeing them live!  Not only are their voices good, but their energy levels are like really high – I’d love some of what they take, specially on this Monday morning.

I went to the Big 5 on Saturday (more about that with pics soon) and Jax Panik was one of the performers.  They got the crowd going and even called and provided a great performance.  Now I want their CD and everything Jax Panik.

Do yourself a favour and check them out live, you will have no option but to move to their music and enjoy yourself!

My peellow

So my friday favorite today has really become a HUGE favorite in my life – my bright pink lips pillow.  It looks so cute (the picture below doesn’t do it justice) and it is amazingly comfortable.  It has some weird stuff inside that makes it go back to its shape every time it gets used…cool right? My cool mom bear (my second mom) bought it for me from Mr Price Home and now I can’t live without it :)

Guess List – Meet Vicki

GUESS WHY…

I like Vicki… She is such an inspiration to many women, hearing and deaf!  Her story is a positive one that she is going to make sure ends well.  Such a friendly lady who I feel like I could chat to for hours – even though we haven’t actually met.  In case you wondering who this lovely lady is – she was crowned Miss Deaf SA in 2009, and 2nd princess at the Miss Deaf International 2010.  She is going to Prague in 2 weeks time to compete in Miss Deaf World.  I wish her all the luck, hope she has a fabulous time!

GUESS WHAT…..

Vicki can’t live without… My adorable cat, Ally.  He’s the love of my life!

Vicki has in her handbag…Only the necessities.  I don’t like those big handbags full of unused stuff.  Labello, cellphone, money and my sunglasses.

Book Vicki last read… Recently read “Facing the Giants”(NOT the movie) by Max Lucado.  The giant is not always necessarily “in-your-face”.As the book states.  The giant taunts you with bills you can’t pay, people you can’t please, habits you can’t break, failures you can’t forget, and a future you can’t face.  But just like David (of the bible), you can face your giant, even if you aren’t the strongest, the smartest, the best equipped, or the holiest.  Powerful, powerful stuff.

Excuse Vicki once used to get out of trouble… As a kid I would always literally look the other way when my parents or teachers were scolding me for being naughty.  Because I read lips, I only need to look the opposite way not to “hear” what the person is saying.  I would simply reply,”I don’t know what you’re saying…” By then my parents and teachers would have calmed down, and then they’re not so mad at me anymore!

Vicki’s 3 wishes are… To grow in my relationship with the Lord, fulfill His plans for my life, and walk into my destiny.

Secret/unusual talent Vicki has… Mmm I’m not really that unusual, I’m very ordinary!

GUESS WHO…

Vicki would love to wear… So You Think You Can Dance’s presenter Cat Keeley’s clothes

Vicki’s secret crush is… Don’t really have a crush on someone.  I think the last time this happened was in high school

Vicki’s idol is…Don’t really have an idol.  I strive to be the best person I can be.

Vicki’s favorite person to follow is…  @laurenlankford is hilarious

Yesterday I stumbled upon…

So yesterday I was doing my whole Twitter thing (I check it every 10 mins) and I stumbled upon Miss Deaf SA, I am now following @vickifourie and what an absolute beauty – inside and out.

I went onto her blog which is a total inspiration as it shows all of her achievements and a little bit about her life. If you’d like to check it out the address is
http://vickifourie.blogspot.com

I have requested to do a write up about her for my internship, I’m such a sucker for inspirational, “against-all-odds” stories. I will post the article I write on my blog as well.

While on her blog I followed a link to read a feature of her on a christian blog – this feature will give you an idea of what a treasure this young lady is.

Please copy and paste the link below into your search bar and read this story – AMAZIIIING!

Lets all get behind this young lady as she is on the journey of Miss Deaf World 2011.

7 things I learnt on youth day

While you were all enjoying your public holiday, I had a learning experience. Majority of this whole learning adventure wasn’t all that cool…Read on to see why

1: Little Fockers (the movie) is a total waste of an hour and forty minutes! Jessica Alba acts like a total lunatic which didn’t suit her at all and well the movie was just disappointing.

2: Migraines suck! They are sore and make you feel funny. (had my first one – totally ruined my youth day celebrations)

3: I really don’t like KFC – it doesn’t taste like it used to. The thought of it makes me gag.

4: Black Eyed Peas have the ability to make me dance even when feeling shitty! They are too cool!

5: Why car services are important (had to do an article about it, quite interesting actually)

6: A public holiday is always rad but when its a Thursday and you have to go back to work on the Friday it’s kind of bitter sweet.

7: What the colour teal looks like (don’t laugh) I know the basic colours, when it gets all complicated then I’m lost. It’s a very nice colour.

There you have it, believe it or not these things had an impact on my life which is why I thought I’d share, and please if you haven’t seen Little Fockers, don’t waste your time!

Peace :)

7 things confirmed

My Friday started by waking up to a storm, not too sure what time that was, can remember thinking I would like to spend the day in bed all warm and dry. When my alarm went off, it took all of me to get outta bed and into work gear and out the door. So my boyfriend and I are cruising down the freeway (when I say cruising, I don’t mean speeding, going at a comfortable speed) when bam I look next to me and just see a fricken silver car coming for me. All I can remember is screaming my lungs out – I have never been so scared and my boyfriend putting his arm over my stomach to hold me back. Long story short, it was a rainy day in Durbs and some twit decided to change lanes obviously not checking blind spots, so she bumped the silver car which then bumped us, we were in the fast lane so we skid off the road onto the grass which was so slippery. We eventually got stopped by the barrier. We are ok, just the normal back and neck pain

So here are 7 things in life that got confirmed today…

1: Something about rainy weather really turns lots of drivers into doosh bags! While waiting on the side of the freeway after our accident, we nearly witnessed a few more.

2: My boyfriend really is amazing! He handled the car and everything so well, he calmed me down and protected me and after that he still got out the car to check if everyone else was ok. Now he’s a keeper ;)

3: Police stations are no fun – theres a weird vibe and unhelpful people in uniforms.

4: Always keep a pen in your bag – the police stations have none.

5: I would be a wreck without my cigarettes (bad habit I know) BUT I do kinda rely on them to help me in faulty situations.

6: A jab in the ass is quite painful (my first one today and I did not dig it)

7: We MUST make each and every day count because we do never know when will be our last. I know its a little heavy but true! Things happen quickly so always make sure your loved ones know they loved and live life to the full!

So there you have it, what started as a day with me wishing to stay home in bed, ended how i wanted it. Not the way I had planned it but I’m alive to blog about my friday so all is good in the hood.

The next survivor series

I received this email from a friend and I thought it was excellent so I had to share it with you :)

THE
NEXT SURVIVOR
SERIES
Six married men
will be dropped on an island
with one car
and 3 kids each
for six weeks.

Each kid will play two sports
and take either music or dance classes.

There is no fast food.

Each man must
take care of his 3 kids;
keep his assigned house clean,
correct all homework,
complete science projects,
cook,
do laundry,
and pay a list of ‘pretend’ bills
with not enough money.

In addition,
each man
will have to budget enough money
for groceries each week.

Each man
must remember the birthdays
of all their friends and relatives,
and send cards out on time–no emailing.

Each man must also take each child
to a doctor’s appointment,
a dentist appointment
and a haircut appointment.

He must make one unscheduled and
inconvenient visit per child to the Emergency Room.

He must also make cookies or cupcakes
for a school function.

Each man will be responsible for
decorating his own assigned house,
planting flowers outside, and keeping it
presentable at all times.

The men will only have access to television
when the kids are asleep and all chores are done.

The men must shave their legs,

wear makeup daily,

adorn themselves with jewelry,

wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes,

keep fingernails polished,

and eyebrows groomed

During one of the six weeks,

the men will have to endure severe
abdominal cramps, backaches, headaches,
have extreme, unexplained mood swings
but never once complain or slow down
from other duties.

They must attend weekly school meetings
and church,
and find time at least once to spend
the afternoon at the park or a similar
setting.

They will need to read a book to the kids each night
and in the morning,
feed them,
dress them,
brush their teeth and
comb their hair
by 7:30 am.

A test will be given
at the end of the six weeks,
and each father will be required to know
all of the following information:
each child’s
birthday,
height, weight,
shoe size, clothes size,
doctor’s name,
the child’s weight at birth,
length, time of birth,
and length of labor,
each child’s favorite color,
middle name,
favorite snack,
favorite song,
favorite drink,
favorite toy,
biggest fear,
and what they want to be when they grow up.

The kids vote them off the island based on performance.

The last man wins only if…
he still
has enough energy
to be intimate with his spouse
at a moment’s notice.

If the last man does win,
he can play the game over and over and over
again for the next 18-25 years,
eventually earning the right
to be called Mother!

My new fav

Since I can remember I’ve always had a fascination and love for owls.  Not too sure why – probably because of their eyes and there is somethng so mysterious about them while they chilling on that tree branch.

On another note – I love jewellery, whether its costume jewellery from Mr Price, weird and wonderful from the fleamarket or the REAL deal.  I just love it!!

My description of jewellery: One of few things that can turn an angry woman’s frown into an ecstatic smile.  The one birthday/Christmas/valentines gift that you can always be sure of.  There is not a lady on earth who wouldn’t like jewellery as a gift.  It is like the hand in handbag, the Dolce in Dolce and Gabana and the sun in sunshine.  It can brighten the worst of days; it can turn a somewhat boring, plain outfit into the hottest one of the season.  Yes that’s right, it does have some sort of power and hold on us woman.  But who are we to complain? It is such a blessing.

The cliché goes, diamonds are girls best friend, whoever said that was way behind on the bandwagon because its more like any jewellery is a girls best friend and her boyfriend and the siblings she never had but wishes she did, it’s the chocolate we crave but don’t eat because of our hips.

Having said that, you can imagine my utter excitement when I was doing my hourly twitter thing and saw a jewellery giveaway, followed the link to enter and there it was………….. Thee most awesome owl necklace ever!! (well not that I’ve even seen many – they very rare, which might be another reason I dig them so much)

Aren’t they just the cutest thing? at the risk of sounding totally crazy, I have to get all of them! I have fallen in love and I have to have!

But wait there’s more, I decided to browse around to see what else was on offer ( let me tell you – some pretty awesome goodies) I came across the rings…YAY!!!

Yip, those are going to be mine too!

Do yourselves a favour and check out this ladies blog, very unique, awesome things on there.  Owls may not be your thing, but trust me she has many cool things!

Enjoy!!!!!! :)

Genevieve Motley will soon be opening a store in Durban!! The store will be situated on 100 Bulwer Rd and the opening date is the 10th of June.

7 Reasons to smile

Smiling just happens without much thought, like when watching a friend do something silly or embarrassing, or when you achieve something you have been striving for.  Smiling is a very natural response that shares your happiness with others.  The saying goes a smile is the most beautiful thing a girl can wear and I agree fully.

1: It can make you happy (even when you’re not)
There’s something about a smile that makes everything seem ok.  Sometimes you just smile because it’s the right thing to do when being smiled at, but without realising it when you share a smile with your friend, sibling or whoever it may be you are, according to scientific studies, sending a message to your brain saying that you are happy.  And when you are happy your body releases all kinds of feel – good endorphins.  So there you have it, a simple smile can improve a blue Monday or it can be a pick me up after an argument.

2: It makes others happy too.
Smiling is contagious!  Whenever you are around someone who has just had something fantastic happen to them you will notice that you can’t help but smile with them.  Something as simple as seeing a friend smile can automatically place a smile on your face.  Crazy right? Talk about a chain reaction.  And don’t forget that because you are smiling you are telling your brain you’re happy so either way you win!

3: It makes you look more beautiful than you already are
Wearing a smile definitely makes you look hotter than wearing a frown.  Chuck that frown like you would chuck rotten food.  When taking a photo we are always requested to smile.  WHY?? Because it’s when you look your best.  You can straighten your hair with a GHD ten times a day and visit the sun bed a couple times a week but the reality is that without that smile, you will never be a ten.  And a bonus is that the opposite sex always finds a girl smiling more attractive, it makes them feel more comfortable.

4: Its winter
While most of us prefer summer, winter definitely has its perks – boots and coats, blankets and hot chocolate, warm food and cuddles.  Who doesn’t love loafing in front of the TV in comfy winter pjs with a good movie on, a good looker and good food? Enjoy the season and all it has to offer.  Stock up on bubble bath and enjoy the relaxation a hot bath has to offer.  Use the winter months to pamper and treat yourself to the good things in life.  You can have your girls over and chill out by the fireplace (if you are lucky enough to have one) if you don’t then a bonfire is definitely the answer! You can have long, comfy chats.  Oh and don’t forget the marshmallows, fire and marshmallows go hand in hand.

5: no foreign smiles
All smiles are in the same language.  Whether it’s a Chinese girl or a French girl you are smiling at they know exactly what you mean.  You can go anywhere in the world and smile, and they will all smile back at you (unless they have been sucking on lemons).  While many of us have dreams to travel lets not forget the beauty of our own country and all that surrounds us – never take this for granted because there are many people (the blind) who can’t even see the simple things that we see everyday.  We are surrounded by beautiful sunsets and rainbows, wild life, scenery and good people, what’s not to love about that.

6: Best of the Best
When you’ve worn your shoes for a while they tend to take shape of your foot, if you were to wear my shoes you would not be comfortable in them and vice versa.  Instead of wasting time wishing to be in someone else’s shoes, just be glad that yours fit.  Moral of the story – don’t wish to have anyone else’s life, don’t let the fact that you haven’t got top of the range everything get you down – because lets face it, technology is booming so its quite a mission to keep up.  We have all gotten so materialistic and our desire to have doesn’t end.  So let’s say thanks for what we do have.  Happiness is not a matter of good fortune or worldly possessions; it’s a mental attitude which comes from appreciating what we have instead of miserable about what we don’t have.

7: Because you’re living
LIVE…LAUGH…LOVE is such a simple but meaningful quote!  And you     should smile just because you get to do all that.  You are living; the world is your oyster.  Life is like a gift – you get to unwrap it and enjoy the contents.  The uncertainty of what is under that gift wrap is what makes life more interesting and enjoyable.

There’s just something so beautiful, comforting and special about a smile.  It’s a small, free gesture that can make many hearts happy.  Smile at your parents, your neighbour and even a stranger on the street – JUST SMILE
